What does a trip involve?

Every community we visit is different, and therefore every Fair Game trip looks a little (or a lot!) different. However, a typical Fair Game trip will include the following:

  • Team players who are flexible, open to new experiences, and willing to push themselves outside their comfort zone.

  • People who enjoy/have experience with the following: working with kids/teens, sports/fitness, health promotion, regional/remote WA, working with culturally diverse groups.

Non-negotiable skills required:

  • Respect for people from diverse walks of life and a willingness to further your cultural awareness.

Who would this suit?

Our hub volunteers are a broad mixture of mainly young adults who live locally or are on placement in the community.

No specific skills are required and you don’t have to be a professional sportsman to take part in the games! We are looking for:

  • Team players who are flexible, have plenty of energy and enthusiasm and are willing to push themselves outside their comfort zone.

  • People who enjoy/have experience with the following: working with kids/teens, sports/fitness,  working with culturally diverse groups – or people wanting to learn these skills.

It is essential that you have respect for people from diverse walks of life and a willingness to further your cultural awareness, as well as enthusiasm to learn and grow your individual knowledge and skills.

What’s involved?

Fair Game’s regional hubs are currently located in Broome and Kununurra in the Kimberley and South Hedland in the Pilbara.

The hubs run free active games sessions and provide a healthy meal each week for at-risk children and young people (6-18 years).  The program aims to get them moving, building their confidence and learning teamwork skills. Each hub is run by one or more Project Officers with volunteers assisting in the running of the sessions.   Volunteers join in the games with the kids which helps break down barriers and offer chances for encouragement.  For a less active role you might like to help some of the kids prepare the evening meal, teaching them some kitchen skills and about healthy eating.

“Thank you once again for your invaluable contribution. Your work is a shining example of how commitment and passion can bring about meaningful change in a community. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and seeing even more positive outcomes from your programs.”
